Thanks again, that was 1/2 the battle with this DVD! Once I set the 
region code (indeed, it was in a virginal, unset state) and booted back 
to Fedora I could view a handful of DVDs; except the one I really wanted 
(Leon) wouldn't decrypt. Thanks for solving the first problem! You're a 
lifesaver.

For this DVD I figured out eventually that in .xine/config 
(.gxine/config) I had to set the decryption method to 'title', the 
default is 'key'.

   # CSS decryption method
   # { key  disc  title }, default: 0
   media.dvd.css_decryption_method:title

I honestly haven't taken the time to research what the difference is, 
but changing it got me up and running and I'm a happy camper now. This 
option is so buried in the (g)xine UI I can't imagine how anyone without 
some experience (read: grandma :) ) could ever figure out how to view an 
encrypted DVD...

PS: of note mplayer just straight up dies, it's usually the best movie 
player but in this case it was the worst.
