I use in /etc/nsswitch.conf

hosts: files mdns4_minimal [NOTFOUND=return] dns mdns4

so I can locate host.local using nss-mdns plugin. But it should not be
necessary
for tangerine.

For the ipod plugin be built, it is necessary to upgrade libipoddevice to
0.5.3
and ipod-sharp to 0.6.3. The rpms are there, but tangerine was built without
them
so no one needed to upgrade.

I can post the tangerine version with ipod plugin, if there is any interest.

Anyone willing to take over these rpms, please be my guest.
