Duuuude, you ROCK!!  Congrats that did the trick.  I am now wondering,
if when you first install, if you were to remove your xorg.conf before
running aticonfig --initial and let that create it all from scratch.
Cause that looks like what I ended up with after you edited it.

I am going to try something, as I can't get Desktop effects to work, as
it says composite extention not working/available/whatever.  I see that
it's disabled in my config and don't know if that is what enables fglrx
to work or just there?  Going to comment it out once to try it out.
