After you install the driver, run the following:
yum install ati-x11-drv
aticonfig --initial
aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv
edit xorg.conf and drop in the bottom
Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AIGLX" "off"
EndSection
