I don't know how this voodoo works, but, hell, it works =) I just
upgraded kernel to 2.6.18-1.2200, did good old 'sudo smart install
nvidia-x11-drv' and... there it was, it just worked =)
So, thks a lot for making our life (a lot) easier with regards to nvidia
driver upgrades =)
