What's it mean? [Errno -1] Metadata file does not match checksum

Not long ago, Doran Barton proclaimed...

Nobody answered, but I figured it out. It was MY fault.
Our friendly dansguardian proxy/filter was blocking HTTP requests for .gz
files. Once I disabled that behavior, everything worked fine.
It's a little irritating the dansguardian is set up with preschool-level
filtering out of the box. Ah well.
